Living with Long COVID

A Long COVID symptom tracker for a recovery that won't follow a straight line

A chronic illness tracker and gentle companion that already knows what Long COVID can involve, so you do not have to explain it from scratch.

What Long COVID can involve

Long COVID is the name for symptoms that continue or develop after a COVID-19 infection and go on for weeks or months. Fatigue, breathlessness, brain fog, a racing heart, changes to smell and taste, pain and broken sleep are among the most commonly reported, and they can change from one day to the next.

Many people also describe a crash after doing a little too much, similar to the post-exertional malaise of ME/CFS. Good days and bad days that don't seem to follow any pattern are far easier to talk about once they're written down. taluvu's founder lives with parosmia that began after COVID. That story is here.

An estimated 2 million people in the UK were living with self-reported long COVID as of early 2023.

Symptoms checklist

Long COVID symptoms checklist to take to your GP

Tick what applies to you, note how often it happens, and take it to your appointment, so the conversation starts further along. It describes your experience. It does not say what is causing anything: ticking most of these does not mean you have Long COVID, and ticking a few does not mean you do not. Only a clinician can work that out with you.

The list comes from the NHS and charity sources linked further down this page, and from what people living with Long COVID tell us they keep an eye on. It is a starting point, not a test.

How a day can feel

If your days sound anything like this, taluvu was made with you in mind.

  • “Standing up too fast still catches me out.”
  • “I lose words in the middle of a sentence.”
  • “Doing a little more sets me back for days.”
  • “People have moved on from it, and I can't.”
  • “I look well, which makes it harder to be believed.”

These are the kinds of things taluvu invites you to say in your own words, never a checklist of what anyone “should” have.

What taluvu helps you keep track of

Choose Long COVID and it starts you with a palette, not a blank form.

These are things people living with Long COVID often want to keep an eye on. Remove any you do not need, add your own, and check in with a few taps on the days you have very little to give.

  • Fatigue
  • Post-exertional crash (PEM)
  • Brain fog
  • Breathlessness
  • Palpitations
  • Loss of smell or taste
  • Muscle pain
  • Sleep problems
  • A journal in your own words, not a score
  • A plain-English week view of what stands out
  • A Doctor Summary you own and can print
  • Your care team’s details in one place

taluvu never claims one thing caused another. It shows what's worth noticing and leaves the medicine to your doctor. See how the symptom tracker app works.

Questions people ask

Long COVID and taluvu, in plain answers.

Short, honest answers about what taluvu does and does not do for Long COVID. Nothing here is medical advice.

Is taluvu a Long COVID symptom tracker?

Yes. Long COVID is one of the conditions built into taluvu, with a starting palette of fatigue, post-exertional crashes, brain fog, breathlessness, palpitations, changes to smell or taste, muscle pain and sleep problems. You can add anything else you're living with, in your own words.

Can I keep track of crashes and good days that seem random?

That's exactly what a day-by-day record is for. Good days and bad days that don't seem to follow any pattern become far easier to talk about once they're written down in order, and taluvu describes your week in plain English rather than a score.

Does taluvu connect to a heart rate monitor or smartwatch?

Not at the moment. You can note a racing heart, palpitations or breathlessness as symptoms and add any reading you took yourself in the journal, but taluvu doesn't import data from other devices.

Can I use taluvu for parosmia and smell changes after COVID?

Yes. Loss or distortion of smell and taste is in the Long COVID palette, and you can describe exactly what a smell has become in your own words. taluvu's founder lives with parosmia that began after COVID, which is part of why the app exists.
